While
this is not the first time that Martin Rawlinson has
run the Creative Web Design course, it is the first time that the
course has been accredited by Cardiff Learn at Cardiff
University's Centre for Lifelong Learning. The course is
run in partnership with Ffotogallery at Chapter
Arts Centre in Market Road, Canton, Cardiff.
The
Creative Web Design course is divided into three modules and the
successful completion of each module gives the student 20 Cardiff
University credits. Once the student has gained 60 credits,
the student is awarded a Cardiff University Foundation
Certificate in Creative Web Design. Martin briefly describes
each of the course modules as follows:
|
|
Module
One
Macromedia
Dreamweaver - 17 September to 10 December 2002. As
part of the Foundation Certificate in Creative Web Design,
this core module introduces you to WYSIWYG design using
Dreamweaver 4. You will apply web design principles
to construct a user-friendly web site incorporating advanced
features including frames, forms, JavaScript, and multimedia
content.
|
|
|
|
Module
Two
Adobe
Photoshop - 14 January to 8 April 2003. This
module focuses on the digital manipulation of images for
use on the web. Using Photoshop 6 you will learn
how to import and retouch photographic images, apply special
effects and transformations and automate time-consuming
procedures. The course also covers producing vector
graphics for use on the web using Macromedia
Fireworks 4.

|
|
|
Module
Three
Macromedia
Flash - 29 April to 22 July 2003. This final
module introduces you to Macromedia Flash 5, the industry
standard for creating high impact web sites. You
will learn how to create vector graphics and animations,
incorporate buttons and interactive elements and add movies
and sound to your site. You will use these skills
to create a complete interactive Flash web interface.

Only
ten students are admitted to each module as the practical nature
of web design makes teaching a larger group impractical. The
Creative Web Design course has been so popular and oversubscribed
that an
extra
course has been set up and is run by Tim Long in
parallel with Martin's original course.
